Work for this Course

Page history last edited by Cyrus Mulready 9 years, 11 months ago

The requirements for this course fall into five categories: Participation, Quizzes, Written Work, Group Projects and Final Portfolio.

As the semester progresses, I will post links to detailed descriptions for these assignments on this page, as well as a Rubric for each written assignment that shows you how exactly your work will be evaluated for the assignment.

I will update you on your progress in the class regularly through e-mail reports; please feel free to talk to me about your work in the class and how your work is being evaluated at any time.

Participation (10%) I expect this class to be based on active contributions from all participants.  You should read the assigned texts at least once before the corresponding class meeting, and come to class ready to participate in our discussions, "lit labs," and other activities. At the beginning of each week, I will post "The Week Ahead" summary to PBWorks, detailing the work for the week ahead, and topics and questions for you to prepare to discuss before our class meetings. These questions are designed to help you note the important details of the reading (plot, characters, etc.) and reflect on. We integrate a discussion of these questions into our class time, during which time I will ask students to share their responses.

Quizzes (15%) There are two quizzes in the class: a Timeline Quiz and a Poetics Quiz. These are designed to test your knowledge of some key knowledge from the term.

Individual Written Work (35%) You will complete four assignments over the course of the term. The first two (the Timeline Entry and Commonplace Book) are requirements for everyone to complete. You will choose the other two assignments from the list below (each has its own deadline on the Schedule of Readings and Assignment Deadlines).

          Required:

 Timeline Project (Graded Pass/Fail)

 Commonplace Book (15%)

Complete Two of these Three Choices (each worth 10%):

Editing Projec

Annotation (Annotation Example

Close and Distant Sonnet Reading

Group Projects (20%)

You will work in groups on two major projects. My expectation for these is that you will participate equally and fully in producing the work for the group.

#1 Wikipedia Project

#2 Faerie Queene Project (Groups for Faerie Queene Project)

Final Portfolio (20%)

Your final portfolio will be your opportunity to bring together your best work from the semester, create a new project, and reflect on your learning from the course of the term. You will also present your work to the class during our final exam period.
